April 6: Cheese Spotlight

Last year presented unimaginable challenges for countless people here in the United States and abroad. The COVID-19 pandemic took life as we knew it and forced us all into a new normal. The impact of this new normal on the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry was profound.

As restaurant traffic plummeted, consumers turned to their own kitchens for meal preparation. Cheese, of course, played a leading role in meal preparation and, as such, saw tremendous growth in 2020. Cheese dollar sales across the United States grew 18.1% in 2020, equating to nearly $3.5 billion in dollar growth. To put that in perspective, 2020 dollar growth was 13 times greater than it was in 2019, when sales grew only 1.4% and added $261.3 million to the category.
