IDDBA's 24th Annual Cake Decorating Challenge Entry Guidelines

The three participants will travel to Orlando, Friday, May 31, and return home Wednesday, June 5.  This is an all-expense paid trip for the three chosen decorators. During the three-day event, participants will fill an 8’ bakery case, make a tiered wedding cake, a cake for tasting with your unique flavor profile, and create a custom-design themed cake and store level sheet cake. Check out what last year's participants created at 2018 Cake Decorating Challenge.

Enter today for a great experience offering professional growth and a fun opportunity to meet others within your industry.  Garden Home Market Place decorator Natasha Damm encourages others to enter, “It's been a real honor and an awesome experience. I would definitely recommend it to any decorator. Whether you've been decorating a year or 25 years, it doesn't matter.”. She also says, “I had a great time being here (IDDBA 18 New Orleans) experiencing the camaraderie from other challengers and the people working the show. The Challenge has been an eye opener to try new things when I get home, share with my coworkers, and stay up-to-date on the newest trends”.

The Cake Decorating Challenge is open to supermarket decorators. Three decorators will be chosen based on quality of portfolio submitted.  The selection committee looks at creativity, use of color, consistent edging and lettering, variety of technique, use of multiple mediums, and neatness.

A portfolio should consist of cakes personally decorated within the last five years. As a guide, please include a minimum of:
  • a. Bakery Case Cakes: 10 different cakes, 3 – 5 images of each cake
  • b. Tiered Wedding Cakes: show 5 of your best cakes, 3 – 5 images of each cake
  • c. Custom-design Cakes: 10 different cakes, 3 – 5 images of each cake

Submit either a physical portfolio (book, USB, or CD) via mail or a digital portfolio electronically. Deadline for the digital portfolio and entry form to be received by the IDDBA is midnight PST Thursday, February 14, 2019. Phyiscally mailed portfolio and entry forms must be postmarked February 14, 2019. Selected contestants will be informed around March 22, 2019.
